Anderson, Harvey take new positions on DeKalb Magistrate bench

1:37 pm, May 27th, 2010

Berryl A. Anderson was sworn in Thursday as the new chief judge of DeKalb County Magistrate Court. Next week, Alan C. Harvey will be sworn in as a new full-time judge in DeKalb Magistrate Court.

The changes are the result of the retirements of Chief Magistrate Court Judge Winston P. Bethel and Magistrate Court Judge C. David Wood. Both Bethel and Wood accepted DeKalb County’s offer of early retirement.

Anderson had been one of the full-time judges in DeKalb’s magistrate court. Harvey has been a part-time magistrate court judge in DeKalb for 25 years. He’ll become full-time effective June 1.

Harvey said that his father, Chris Harvey, began practicing law in Decatur in 1950 and practiced until his retirement. Alan Harvey has kept the family tradition alive by practicing in Decatur too.
