From press secretary to (Bar) president

2:03 pm, June 21st, 2010

The Daily Report caught up with Buddy Darden, one of the former employers of new State Bar of Georgia president Lester Tate, at the Bar’s annual meeting last Friday in Amelia Island.

Darden said Tate was his press secretary for about three years during the early 1980s, when Darden was a new congressman in Washington.

Darden recalled that Tate had been interning in former Senator Sam Nunn’s office after graduating from Georgia Tech in 1982 and then came over to his office to answer the phones. “My press secretary abruptly quit and I asked Lester to do a few press releases while I found somebody,” said Darden. “He did a great job, so I promoted him.”

Darden was attending the meeting to accept a lifetime achievement award from the Bar’s general practice and trial section.
