Former Floyd County chief magistrate arrested

Former Floyd County Chief Magistrate Judge Chris Mathis was arrested on 27 charges of theft, fraud, forgery and exploitation of an elder person following a GBI investigation, the Rome News Tribune has reported.
Mathis resigned his judicial position in May following a Judicial Qualifications Commission inquiry into the charges.
Mathis was released from the Floyd County jail on a $500,000 bond.
