Justices correct record on mistaken disbarment

The Supreme Court of Georgia has vacated last week’s disbarment of Jackson lawyer Denise F. Hemmann after the justices realized that a discipline report from the State Bar of Georgia contained conflicting recommendations.
The court on Monday issued an order stating that it was rejecting the Notice of Discipline from the State Bar regarding Hemmann. The notice, from March, twice told the justices that Hemmann should be subject to a public reprimand but at the end asked them to disbar Hemmann.
“It just got confused all the way through,” said Jane Hansen, a spokeswoman for the Supreme Court.
David Lipscomb, Hemman’s lawyer, said his client was “delighted” by the order and “happy to be back at work” practicing law.
A call to State Bar General Counsel Paula Frederick was not returned immediately.
