Cobb County state Rep. Bobby Franklin found dead

Cobb County state Rep. Bobby Franklin has died.
Few details were immediately available, but Cobb County police spokesman Mike Bowman confirmed to the Daily Report that Franklin was found in his home shortly before noon today. The death is “under investigation, but there were no signs of foul play,” Bowman said.
Franklin, R-Marietta, was a businessman and a member of the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee since its inception in 2005. He was known for his strong stance on limited government and frequently voted against legislation, no matter which party sponsored it.
This past session, Franklin sponsored several bills that received significant attention but did not gain traction, including legislation that would have abolished driver’s licenses and outlawed abortion.
Rep. Wendell Willard, R-Sandy Springs, who chaired the House Judiciary Committee, described Franklin as a man of strong beliefs and principles.
“I have worked with him the last 11 years,” Willard said. “You had to admire the fact he’d never compromise when he felt strongly about something.”
Rep. Rich Golick, R-Smyrna, who chaired the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee, was out of town and declined to comment.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported the news of Franklin’s death.
