House retains judicial panel leaders

Last year’s leaders of the judiciary committees in the state House of Representatives will return to their posts.
Rep. Wendell Willard, R-Sandy Springs, was named chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, which he has led since 2005.
Rep. Rich Golick, R-Smyrna, will stay on as chairman of the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee, a role he has held since 2009.
However, fewer lawyer-lawmakers are heading committees in the House compared to the Senate. Just five of 39 House legislative panels are chaired by lawyers, compared to eight of 27 in the Senate. This is likely due to the lower concentration of lawyers in the House, which is 28 out of 180 compared to 11 out of 56 in the Senate.
