“Pled” has slight lead over “Pleaded” in online survey

Nearly 100 legal language enthusiasts have cast their votes to determine the proper past tense of the word “plead,” and so far “pled” leads “pleaded” 50 to 45. Two participants preferred “plead,” a form denounced by our contributors John “Pled” Chandler of King & Spalding and Brian “Pleaded” Boone of Alston & Bird.
Their respective positions can be found here, and our survey, which is attached to the article, will close Friday at 5 p.m., with results announced Tuesday.
(Note: the spell-check mechanism on our blog hosting site just highlighted “pled” as a possible mistake, but to remain neutral, I ignored the suggestion.)
